Cerapachys sulcinodis (Asian Raider Ant)

An aggresive primitive species of ant, characteristically known for its raiding behaviour and aggressive stinging nature. It is often compared to the true Dorylinae subfamily of ants which are commonly known as Army Ants.

These slender, shiny black ants are often found amongst low lying shrubs of dipterocarp rainforests that span South East Asia, mainly territories within Thailand. Subsequently, a temperature range of 21-27C is recommended with a relatively high humidity of 50-80%.

Whilst they actively forage during the day, scientists have seen some members forage at night, especially during the wet season in these areas.

This species of ant will predate on a wide variety of insects and small rodents and amphibians if given the chance. Interestingly, it is one of the few species which is capable of raiding other species nests of their brood! Yes, that's right! They will physically invade vulnerable nests and bring back young defensless brood to feed their own young with.

Lastly, it is a fast growing species of ant whose queen often lays hundreds of eggs over a short period of time and will only stop for a short time during the dry season which is normally around the month of November.

It is illegal and strictly frowned upon to release any non-native ants into the wild.
