Aphaenogaster beccarii

This light brown tropical species of ant is typically found within India and limited number of localities within South East Asia.

Its unique body morphology allows this ant to be quick on its feet and rather agile when it comes to climbing surfaces or evading predators. Combined with its rather long legs, it makes for an intriguing species to watch.

A.beccarii is often found surrounded by jungle a thet base of mountainous areas. Specifically, it seems like they usually nest under stones or around different types of ferns. Therefore, colonies usually do quite well in bioactive setups in captivity, although they will adapt to most modern formicaria, providing that a temperature range of 20-26C is provided and 50-80% humidity.

Lastly, this species is not very fussy when it comes to feeding and will take a wide range of freshly killed insects and sugary substances such as honeywater.

It is illegal and strictly frowned upon to release any non-native ants into the wild.
