The Ants HQ Nursery Tube is purpose-built for founding large queen ants or small colonies of large species, especially those that require specific environmental conditions. Unlike traditional test tube setups, this design features a naturalistic, textured base that mimics rough soil, essential for encouraging natural behaviour.

Moisture is delivered via an external hydration hole at the base, creating a humid microclimate that’s ideal for species like Harpegnathos venator and Odontoponera transversa (Ponerinae subfamily).

This humidity and texture combination helps larvae spin their cocoons properly, increasing the chances of successful colony development.

This setup is also well-suited for native UK species such as Myrmica and Lasius, providing the high humidity levels their queens and early colonies thrive in.

For added versatility, the Nursery Tube can be extended with an optional mini foraging area, perfect for semi-claustral queens that require external feeding, or for nourishing small but growing colonies without disturbing their nest.
