Leafcutter Ant Fungus Pod
Leaf Cutter Ant Fungus Pod
Controlled humidity system | Precision monitoring | Built for Atta and Acromyrmex Colonies
The Leaf Cutter Ant Fungus Pod is engineered to maintain the critical environmental conditions required for fungal cultivation in Atta and Acromyrmex colonies. Designed for modular setups and long-term stability, this pod combines sealed hydration, accurate climate monitoring, and compatibility with Ants HQ heating and airflow systems.
Sealed hydration system
Humidity is maintained through a sealed water reservoir containing clay media, enclosed beneath metal mesh and acrylic to prevent access by ants. This system ensures consistent moisture without risk of substrate disruption. Water can be added or removed using a syringe via an access tube at the rear of the pod, providing precise and low-maintenance control.
Environmental monitoring
An integrated digital sensor tracks temperature and humidity in real time, with wireless app connectivity for remote monitoring. External battery access means there is no need to open the pod during maintenance, ensuring uninterrupted internal stability.
Heating & condensation management
Maintaining optimal conditions, approximately 24.5°C and 90–100% humidity is essential for healthy fungus growth. While some setups may benefit from ambient room temperature, it is not always practical to keep an entire room at 25°C year-round. For this reason, the fungus pod is designed for use inside the AntsHQ Heating Box (sold separately), which evenly maintains internal temperatures.
Due to the shape of the pod, external heating is not recommended but the flat viewing surface makes observation easy and engaging. If the pod is warmer than the surrounding room, condensation may form on the inside surfaces. While this is not inherently harmful, it can obscure visibility and if excessive, may affect the fungus. To counter this, the heating box maintains internal equilibrium, significantly reducing condensation. If further control is needed, an optional 40mm USB fan can introduce cooler air via the feeding pod, helping to clear internal fogging without disturbing the colony.
Built for long term use
Constructed from 3mm Perspex® and fully sealed, the pod includes a removable lid with brass-threaded inserts and secure dual tube connectors for expansion. All ports feature screw clamps, and port blockers are included for standalone use or staged colony growth.
