Myrmeco II Ant Nest Starter Kit
The Myrmeco II Ant Nest Starter Kit is a complete ant keeping setup designed to take your colony from its early stages through to a much larger, established colony, without needing to continually move them into a new nest.
At the heart of the kit is our Myrmeco II, featuring 9 individual nesting chambers, an integrated outworld and a clever separator system that allows the available nesting space to grow alongside your ants. Start small. Expand as they grow.
One of the most important features of the Myrmeco II is the inclusion of separator plugs, and they're something we strongly recommend using with younger colonies.
Ant colonies don't necessarily benefit from having lots of space from day one. In fact, a young founding colony will generally feel much more secure with a smaller nesting area.
If you're starting with a colony of fewer than 20 workers, for example, we recommend using the separator plugs so they initially have access to just the first nesting chamber and the outworld.
Once they've grown and begun filling that chamber, simply remove the next plug and give them access to another.
1 chamber → 2 chambers → 3 chambers → eventually all 9 chambers.
This allows the Myrmeco II to effectively grow with your colony, without you having to replace or physically expand the nest itself.
As your colony becomes established, you can gradually open additional chambers at their pace until they're eventually making use of the entire Myrmeco II.
Integrated LED lighting allows you to illuminate the nest and outworld at the touch of a button, giving you an even better view of your colony as it develops.

Whether you're starting with a queen and her first handful of workers or an already established colony, the Myrmeco II gives you the ability to start small and expand their world as they grow.
Our recommendation: Don't rush to give a young colony all 9 chambers. Start them with the first chamber and their outworld, then remove the separator plugs one at a time as the colony begins to fill the available space. Your ants get the smaller, secure nest they need when young, while you still have plenty of room ready for them as the colony develops.
