Camponotus micans
This black carpenter ant is predominantly found in Southern Europe. Specifically, colonies tend to be found in open grassland under stones or roots.
Like many other carpenter ants, as colonies develop, they will start producing major worker ants which are almost as large as the queen herself!
They are a slow growing species of ant yet display fairly large levels of aggresion when threatened.
Due to the temperature nature of their natural environment, these ants should be hibernated from Novbember-March.
It is illegal and strictly frowned upon to release any non-native ants into the wild.
